Aces star Kelsey Plum said she is feeling “refined by fire” after a tough year, which included her April divorce filing with Giants tight end Darren Waller after one year of marriage.
The WNBA All-Star guard — who tied the knot with Waller in a quiet Vegas ceremony in March 2023 — explained that she’s doing well after the news of their split became public last month.
“Oh wow, the offseason has been tough for me. I mean, I’m sure everyone knows, it’s pretty public,” Plum told Fox 5 News in Las Vegas when a reporter asked “how are you a stronger athlete” entering the 2024 season.
“But, you know, for me, I’m super grateful. I think my faith has grown tremendously and not just that, but I know who I am. You kind of get refined by fire.”
The Aces will be going for their third straight championship this season.
“I’m excited about this season, I’m excited about Las Vegas, trying to run it back again,” Plum said. “I know that our fans our with us, I know that this organization is with us I know that our team is as tight as we’ve ever been and we really are just embodying that ‘Aces vs. Everybody’ [mentality].”
The Las Vegas Aces documentary, “Aces vs. Everybody,” premiered May 1, and follows the team’s journey to becoming the first back-to-back WNBA Champions in more than two decades, culminating in their WNBA Finals victory over the New York Liberty in 2023 — and features interviews with coaches, players and team executives.
Waller was present when the Aces beat the Liberty in Game 4 of the 2023 WNBA Finals to clinch their second straight title.
The year prior, the Aces beat the Connecticut Sun to win the 2022 WNBA Finals.
Plum, 29, and Waller, 31, filed a joint petition for a divorce Tuesday, April 23 in Clark County, Nevada, according to online records viewed by The Post.
That day, Plum suggested their marriage was over in a post on her social media pages.
“I’m devastated,” she began. “I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go.
“God has given me such an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends. One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day.”
