‘The Show’ Episode 55: Michael Kay Talks Yankees’ Struggles, Carton Leaving WFAN

The Yankees are 9.5 games out of the AL East. The Mets are 13 games back in the NL East.

Both New York teams will have to keep an eye on the wild card, because it would take a miracle for either to win the division.

The Mets are just fighting to even be in the race for a NL wild-card spot.

To dissect the Yankees struggles and what lies ahead, TV play-by-play voice Michael Kay joined Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman on “The Show” podcast.

‘The Show’ Podcast with Joel Sherman & Jon Heyman:

  • METS STRUGGLES: They are not good right now. Don’t think they will be a seller. Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer have been inconsistent. Have to bet on sneaking into the playoffs and hope the aces become themselves.
  • GIANTS/REDS HOT STREAKS: The Giants look for real. The players they got from the Mets and Yankees have been huge for them. Should we believe in the Reds?

Michael Kay Interview:
YES Network Yankees play-by-play announcer, Host of The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio NY

  • YANKEES STRUGGLES: If they get back Aaron Judge and Carlos Rodon, they are a playoff team. If they can click, they can be a championship-caliber.
  • VOLPE: He has a slight uppercut in his swing. MLB teams figure this out in a hurry. Too many strikeouts this early. They will hang with him if he makes plays in the field.
  • COLE: No problem with what he did throwing it high. Did not think he should be thrown out of the game. Loves watching Cole pitch.
  • CASHMAN: Still think he has got it, but they need to have more postseason success.
  • RADIO: Doesn’t see a finish line for play-by-play or radio. Bothered by some of the hate he gets. Doesn’t have thin skin. Lives with the torment in the mind.
  • CARTON: Radio ratings are unreliable. “Carton & Roberts” kicked their butt for a year. Would rather continue getting butt kicked going against Carton. Wanted him to stay. He can always hold it over him. Wish he could have had the chance to beat him. Discourse was so nasty when he got back from jail and back on WFAN after he gave him an hour on his show before he went away.
